Previous To Day Six, Kona Coast

Day Seven, Kohala Coast to Pololu Valley: This was our beach day, a day to relax and take in the sun. And the sunny Kohala coast was perfect for it -- from Hapuna beach to Mauna Kea beach, the soft golden sand and gentle azure waves were inviting. We swam a little, tried boogie boarding a little, lazed around a little. With enough salt on the skin, we drove up the north Kohala coast to Pololu Valley, another mysterious lush valley hidden behind the cliffs. All along the highway super fit atheletes were training for the upcoming Ironman Triathlon event. Somewhere we crossed an invisible line and it started raining again, making the path down to the valley just a little slippery. The day ended with a beautiful Kohala sunset.

Day Eight, Bye Bye Hawai'i:To say proper goodbye to the island we spent our last hour before boarding the plane on a quest to a secluded beach. Kekaha-Kai is only a couple of miles from the airport, but is an oasis surrounded by a huge lava field, with only one unlikely looking winding, bumpy road leading to it. Our rental car heroically navigated around countless potholes, from one small patch of remaining pavement to the next, finally carrying us to the prettiest beach we'd seen on the island. I did not want to leave... Oh, well, we shall be back some day.
